State Member for Ferntree Gully Nick Wakeling said he was committed to working with the Heany Park school community and Principal to ensure that buildings destroyed by fire last night were rebuilt and repaired as soon as possible.
"The Brumby Government must ensure that the damaged buildings are repaired and replaced as quickly as possible, to minimise the disadvantage to the school community," Mr Wakeling said.
Mr Wakeling said he was increasingly concerned with the crime, vandalism and anti-social behaviour in Ferntree Gully.
"It's upsetting that Heany Park students are the ones who will suffer from this latest fire."
Mr Wakeling said last night's blaze follows a number of playground fires in the community.
"I've been calling for increased police numbers to crack down on these alarming incidents.
"It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt and there simply has not been an adequate response from the Brumby Government.
"After 10 years, the Brumby Government is soft on crime and needs to get serious about protecting our communities," Mr Wakeling said.
