Despite the tabling of over 800 signatures calling for a halt in development and widespread community concern, the Brumby Labor Government will today begin construction on the 87 unit social housing development at the former Ferntree Gully Primary School site.
State Liberal MP Nick Wakeling said that this was a further indication that John Brumby and Justin Madden don't care about the concerns of the Ferntree Gully community.
"The Brumby Labor Government has totally ignored this community and its concerns," Mr Wakeling said.
"Both John Brumby and Justin Madden have been made well aware of the concern from this community over this development, yet they have refused to address these issues and consult with the community on this development.
"Now we're told that building is about to start, yet the community still has not been given an opportunity to have their say on this development.
"The Brumby Labor Government has completely ignored the concerns of our community; just it has throughout the state.
"Ferntree Gully residents deserve more from their Government, but the Brumby Labor Government just isn't interested," Mr Wakeling said.
